Advertisements

Over the last couple of years I am aggressively trying to cover as much of majestic state of Rajisthan as I can.  I have been to corners far and wide , covering forts build in as back as 14th century . I have assembled a list of forts that are reachable from Delhi within a single weekend ie start by Friday or Saturday Morning and be back by Sunday night or Monday early morning .

Neemrana Fort-Palace

I visit Neemrana Fort place on my birthday ( year 2013) and truely felt it is the most royal way a birthday could be celebrated. The fort looked beautiful red in lush green background .

The Chauhan capital was shifted from Mandhan (near Alwar) to Neemrana when the fort was established by Raja Dup Raj in 1467.Nowadays, the Neemrana fort is a heritage resort.

Things to do while you are there :

  1. Do the flying fox adventure activity , where you are tied to a rope and slide across from one mountain to another

Dadhikar Fort

Sadly there is no lake besides this magnificent fort and the road leading to it is almost barren and long . However once you get there then it is a like a  beautiful dream . With their cultural events and splendid facade of flowers everywhere it is a mesmerizing experience .

Things to do while you are there :

  1. Visit the ancient wall painting in nearby caves
  2. Get a ride on the double Decker train that runs from Delhi to Rahisthan and stops at alwar station too .

Kesroli fort

It isnt as big a fort as others like neemrana but it is one of the oldest forts in Rajisthan build in 14th century .

Things to do while you are there :

  1. Go cycleing . Bicycles given by the fort authorities themselves .
  2. Visit the ancient Jain garden and Temple at Tijara

Lalgargh palace , Bikaner

I was small probbaly in class 4th or 5th when my father who is an Army Officer got posted to Bikaner. I remember visiting the fort which was the venue for many army parties . Sharing few of the pictures from there .

The Lallgarh palace  was built by Maharaja Ganga Singhji in the memory of his father, Maharaj Lall Singhj in 1902 A.D. It  is a hybrid architecture and mixture of different elements of Rajput, Muslim and European styles .

Posing here me and my little sister alongside the lake .

SiliSerh Lake palace, alwar

The lake Siliserh was built by maharaja Vinay Singh in year 1845 which acted as a man made water reservoir for irrigating fields nearby . Later he also build a lake palace near it which he uses like a rest-house and for hunting lodging .
